GUNNED DOWN IN HIS CAR DURING ATTEMPTED ROBBERY
AFTER STOPPING AT JAZZ CLUB TO BORROW CORKSCREW
The trial for the two men and a juvenile who prosecutors allege gunned down former Baltimore City Councilman Ken Harris in front of a popular jazz club on Sep. 20, 2008 has been set to begin Aug. 30.
After several postponements, including one for lack of courtroom, prosecutors and defense attorneys have agreed to move forward with the case.
Harris was gunned down in his car in front of the New Haven Lounge in Northeast Baltimore during a robbery attempt. A friend of the club's owner, Harris had stopped by to borrow a corkscrew and found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Police arrested and charged Charles McGaney and Gary Collins, both 21, and Jerome Williams, 17, with first-degree murder.
During pretrial motions defense attorneys questioned the legality of DNA samples obtained from the suspects. The samples were taken from another case in which one of the alleged shooters, Charles McGaney, was a suspect.
